How We Score
Every recommendation on Little Compute comes from the same process: build a structured, comparable dataset, check each figure at its source, and score it against what a small computer is actually bought to do. Here is exactly how, so you can judge the results for yourself.
What we cover
Two categories, one data model: mini PCs (x86, NUC-class boxes) and single-board computers(Raspberry Pi-class boards and their RK3588 alternatives). Both are “one small computer bought whole”, chosen between on specs and price, and monetisable — which is exactly why they share a rubric.
Out of scope, for now: microcontrollers (ESP32/Pico), individual components (RAM/SSD/cases), and full desktops, laptops or gaming rigs.
Our data — and its current status
specVerified: true. Anything we could not confirm on a real page is left as TBC — never estimated. 5 of 16 records are fully verified. Each product record holds the same fields — CPU, iGPU, memory, storage, ports, idle power, price and a "where to buy" list — so the comparison table and every guide are generated from one source of truth. Verified prices link to the page they were taken from; where a vendor does not publish pricing, we say so instead of guessing.
Still TBC
The records below are not fully verified yet. Until a field is confirmed on a real page it is shown asTBC, not filled in with a plausible number. Idle power is TBC on every record, because vendors do not publish it — so it is listed once here rather than repeated below.
| Record | Type | Fields still TBC |
|---|---|---|
| GEEKOM A8 | Mini PC | igpu, ram, storage, ports |
| Beelink Mini S12 Pro | Mini PC | ports, priceFrom |
| GMKtec NucBox G3 | Mini PC | ports |
| AceMagic S1 | Mini PC | ports, priceFrom |
| Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (4GB) | SBC | priceFrom |
| Radxa Rock 5B | SBC | priceFrom |
| Orange Pi 5 | SBC | priceFrom |
| Orange Pi 5 Plus | SBC | priceFrom |
| Banana Pi BPI-M7 | SBC | priceFrom |
| Radxa Rock 4C+ | SBC | priceFrom |
Sources for every verified field are stored on the record and linked from the comparison table. Email us if you can point us at a page that fills one of these in.
How we score
Each device is scored on the same seven criteria, weighted for what decides a small-computer purchase and normalised to a 0–10 score. Hardware transcoding capability (Quick Sync / VCN) and idle power carry real weight, because they decide whether a box can do the job quietly and cheaply.
| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Fit for the job (Plex, NAS, homelab, desktop, budget) | 25% |
| CPU & iGPU performance (incl. hardware transcoding) | 20% |
| Memory & storage flexibility | 15% |
| Ports & networking | 10% |
| Idle & load power (running cost) | 10% |
| Noise, thermals & build quality | 10% |
| Price & value | 10% |
Scores are editorial judgements from this rubric and are never influenced by commissions.
Our promises
What we don't do
Affiliate disclosure — how we make money
Little Compute is reader-funded through affiliate commissions. When you buy through some of our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Those links are always markedrel="sponsored nofollow", and every page carries a funding note.
Commissions never change our scores, our ordering, or which boxes we name as the ones to avoid. Where a recommendation has no affiliate path, we still make it — and where we list multiple stores for the same product, we show the global options alongside a regional one rather than funnelling to a single default link.
Evidence and sources
- Every record keeps one verifiable field set, so a change is a one-line edit in one data file.
- Each price links to the vendor or retailer page it was taken from, dated to the month we checked it.
- Where a vendor does not publish pricing, or a spec cannot be confirmed, we state “TBC” rather than guessing.
- Each page shows the date it was last reviewed, read from version history at build time.
If a figure here is wrong or out of date, please email us. Corrections are made in the open, and the date changes with them.
